Numerous studies reviewed by Suzuki et al. (2005) have raised concerns about the potential adverse health effects caused by chemical UV filters.
FDA Position:
The FDA sunscreen safety review, published 24/09/2021, has confirmed Zinc Oxide to be the only broad-spectrum UV Filter considered safe and effective, whilst the 12 UV Filters below have been identified as potentially toxic and/or carcinogenic.
These chemical also tend to be irritating to sensitive skin, which is why all of our products are hypoallergenic and perfect for delicate skin, even for kids and babies!
Ultimately, at ZinSport we believe in 100% Organic, 100% Vegan mineral sunscreens, with no harsh chemicals, fragrances or chemical irritants that could cause harm to the body.
For effective protection, apply our sunscreen 15 minutes before you go out in the sun. This allows time for the sunscreen to bind to your skin. Remember to cover all exposed areas generously – most adults need about one ounce, which is roughly the size of a shot glass.
Our sunscreen offers up to 40 minutes of water resistance, ideal for activities involving water or sweat. However, it's crucial to reapply immediately after swimming, sweating heavily, or towel drying. Even if you are not in the water or sweating, we recommend reapplying sunscreen every 2hours to maintain optimal skin protection.
Our sunscreens are all at least SPF50, tested to FDA/TGA requirements.
"SPF" stands for Sun Protection Factor. It is a measure of how well a sunscreen will protect skin from UVB rays, the kind of radiation that causes sunburn, damages skin, and can contribute to skin cancer. SPF ratings are determined by the time it takes for UV-exposed skin to redden; if a sunscreen has an SPF of 50, for instance, this means you could be exposed to UVB rays for 50 times longer than without protection before sunburn begins. It's important to note that SPF does not measure protection from UVA rays, which are also harmful and can prematurely age skin. For comprehensive protection, look for sunscreens labeled "broad spectrum," which protect against both UVA and UVB rays, like ours.
Most sunscreen listed on REEF SAFE SUNSCREEN have attained 100% Vegan Certification with Vegecert (Certified Companies - Vegecert), and all product testing is cruelty-free. No animals or animal products are involved in our product, the testing or the manufacturing processes. Check product info of each product for more details.
Definitely! Zinc is a miracle mineral, present in every cell of the body. It helps with DNA synthesis and skin regeneration. In fact, most diaper rash creams are around 40% zinc oxide – so zinc is a soothing, healing product when applied topically. It’s also a phenomenal barrier to the harsh UVA, UVB and blue light rays that we are exposed to daily.
Our sunscreens are fairly thick, but soak into the skin well and are similar in consistency to Banana Boat Simply Protect and Sun Bum’s SPF50 Mineral Sunscreen. We also have products with added ingredients to help fight acne, and are non-comedogenic (say goodbye to the dreaded sunscreen breakouts).
Choosing organic and vegan products offers several benefits:
Health Benefits: Organic products are free from harmful pesticides and chemicals, often leading to higher nutrient levels. Vegan products eliminate the health risks associated with animal or animal-derived products.
Environmental Impact: Organic farming practices are designed to reduce pollution and conserve water, enhancing soil fertility. Vegan products have a lower carbon footprint, as animal farming is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions.
Ethical Considerations: Vegan products align with ethical standards against animal cruelty and exploitation. Organic farming also often includes fair trade practices, supporting better conditions for farmers.
Avoidance of GMOs: Both organic and vegan products typically avoid the use of GMOs.
By choosing organic and vegan, consumers not only make a positive impact on their health but also contribute to a more sustainable and ethical world.
